A Delightful, Easy and Up-lifting Read
Olsteen has written a wonderful book, but one that's a bit difficult to classify. On the one hand, it's easy to criticize as being light-weight, fast and repetitive. On the other hand, those are also its strengths!
Rev Olsteen is the pastor of a "mega-church" in Houston and the book has a strongly Christian frame that may trouble some, but I did not find it distracting. I did not feel "preached at" so much as "talked to" by someone who was clearly coming at life from his own point of view. I felt he respects the reader (who may have a different spiritual or religious orientation) and so it was easy to respect his point of view, as well.
The book is relentlessly up-beat, optimistic and hopeful. His focus that God loves us and wants only the very best for us comes through every page, often in trite, repetitive ways. And yet there is something refreshing and fun about this book. I read it in an afternoon and commented to my wife afterward that it really did change my outlook! I doubt this will be a "classic" but I'm glad I read it, and I recommend it.
