Excellent Book
I received this book as a shower gift. Words cannot express how great this book is! This is my first child and my son is now 3 weeks old. All of my concerns as a new clueless mom are address in the book. I've taken child care classes and this book... more

Don't even open this book!
There are many things I dislike about this book, but the final straw was the section about using the "cry-it-out" approach. In reading the section, the author actually made me feel like a bad parent for not being able to leave my baby to scream alone... more

Bad Breastfeeding Advice
It says
"By the end of the first year, however, scientists tell us that breast milk ceases to be adequate--not only is its protein content is insufficient for the older baby, but it suffers from a decline in several vital nutrients including zinc,... more

Well organzied, but biased.
I like the way this book is organized into easy to digest, month by month chapters, with separate sections for special issues. However, I have found the book limited in the child-rearing approaches the authors put forth. Issues such as when to wean... more

Insulting and not useful
I would not recommend this book or the What to Expect series to anyone. It is written in a condescending tone, as if their methodology is surpreme. Any deviation from their model puts your child at risk of not learning to survive in the world. more

It's Okay...not great
This is a good basic common sense kind of book. Most of it you should know and I think that some of the milestones are wrong. One month my child is a genius and the next challenged. I just wasn't that impressed with it. I expected more because of What... more

Great resource for new moms (and dads)
This is a great resource for new parents. I find myself going to this book often when I have questions about my baby. I have not sat down to read the book through beginning to end, but rather use it as a reference book when I have a question about something.... more

take my copy... please
This book was a waste of money. Although you might think you're buying a guide to baby care, the bulk of this book is devoted to infant development broken down month by month, just like the format of "What to Expect When You're Expecting."

ok book, not the best by far
This book is just ok. It gives factual information in a bland way, but does not take a stand on any issue. The feel I got from this book was that it read like - It is ok if you want to breastfeed, and its ok if you want to bottle feed, whatever you... more

Great Book
I am a first time mother with twin girls. I constantly reference this book. It never leaves the side table by my chair. I am a fairly educated person, but no amount of reading can prepare you for motherhood. Out of all of the books I read this one... more

Very Good, But Buyer Should Still Beware
Set up in a Q & A format, the What to Expect parenting books are full of interesting questions, practical information and worthy advice. No first-time parent can afford to be without one.

Which is not to say these tomes are gospel. No, rather... more

671 pages of rubbish
It gets one star because zero stars are not an option. This book - and indeed, the entire What to Expect series - is patronizing, misleading and oftentimes dead wrong. Why educate when you can frighten? Why present basic facts and allow parents to make... more

Hefty and helpful guide
This is a perfect book to keep handy for easy reference. It's got information on almost any topic that comes with a baby. The question and answer format makes it easy to read and a good index works for finding your specific problem. As with any book,... more

Instilling the fear ...
While these types of books are fairly well informative, they also instill fear into expecting mothers. What happened to our mothers and our mothers mothers? They didn't have books like this and yet they still managed quite well to do things naturally... more

Good reference on illnesses and development
While this book definitely says some things about breastfeeding that I DO NOT AGREE with, I have not used it for that. It is super for finding answers to all kinds of health questions. It is well indexed making it easy to find exactly what I am looking... more

Bad advice was a put off
Luckily, I got a copy of this book after already having a different book and doing other research on my own. Two sections so offended me that I haven't looked at it since. I'm disappointed, because I so depended on "What to Expect When You're Expecting,"... more

Much, much better than the earlier edition!
Most of the reviews listed are for the 1st edition, and I think that is very deceptive. The 2nd edition contains significantly different information, especially on the topic of breastfeeding. It is also more friendly to AP-methods of parenting. I'm quite... more

good reference but major flaws
This is THE book you want to read if you're a first time parent and don't have much experience with babies. You're given very practical explanations on how to deal with your newborn and it helps to solve all the simple troubles you go through everyday,... more
