fascinating and compelling THE KITE RUNNER is one of the best books I've read in a long time. Everything from the novel's setting, to the characterizations, to the almost-expected yet still surprising plot twists, to the heart-breaking emotional relationships at the core, all taken together made this an extremely powerful reading experience. The fact that the story encompasses 30 years of modern history in Afghanistan makes it interesting enough, but the complexity of Amir's relationships with his father, his boyhood friend, the various characters who weave in and out of his life, and most importantly with himself, makes this book a true treasure.
