Wild ride from Afganistan and back again

Mr. Hosseini's book reads like a memoir, but it apparently isn't. The fictional story is a very interesting read that sheds light on some of the history of Afghanistan and the people and ethnicities that live there. It is very easy to get caught up in the life of the main character (a 12 year old boy) and his servant/friend. I won't give away too much, but the story focuses on the boy growing up, how he treats his servant/friend, his exodus to and life in America, and his eventual return to Afghanistan. Some of the plot lines and developments are a kind of bizarre (even for fiction) and there are some grisly scenes (violent) you may want to skip over. But overall, it is a pretty good book.
