The answer to this book I have the answer to the question "What is the Fabric of the Cosmos?"
It is this: Polyester.
But seriously, this is the best-explained book I have read on any subject. I kept waiting for Greene to zoom off into pages and pages... more
good review for The Elegant Universe This is a good review aftering reading The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory. If you are new to Greene start with the Elegant Universe and then if you must go on to the The Fabric of the Cosmosmore
Wonderful. A book to savor Among the near flood of popular books on theoretical physics published the past decade, this one has become my favorite. It is marvelous--clear, fresh, funny, challenging, kind to the reader, and just plain beautiful.
I've been a sucker... more
Good stuff for cosmology buffs A very good read...if you can understand all of it you are a better man than I....but that is part of the fun!

how to better enjoy physics The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality is truly an excellent book for anyone interested in physics and also for those not yet interested in physics.

wild stuff, fascinating book! The Fabric of the Cosmos is a great book, i could not put it down.

10 Stars--A Gem and a Gift As someone who has taught high school and college level physics for close to 30 years, I can say with some degree of experience that this is, hands down, the clearest, most informative, and most exciting book on physics I've ever had the pleasure to encounter.... more
Well done, but too "cute" sometimes. Perhaps Greene thought Einstein's explanation of special relativity using "railway carriages" seemed quaint and in need of updating. I disagree, especially since Greene's idea of updating the examples involves replacing the nameless observers of Einstein's... more
Easier to understand than The Elegant Universe One reviewer stated that this book should be called Elegant Universe for dummies. That may be true, but I get the feeling that it's laymen like myself that Briane Green is targeting. This book is easier to understand than the Elegant Universe. Yes it... more
Remarkably well written. This may be the best written science book I have ever read. It has all the qualities of good science writing: it is carefully organized; it has an implicit model of what the reader will be able to comprehend, and warns the reader when some material... more
Unbelievable! Incredibly Inspiring This book made me wish I was a physicist! I'm an economist by training, with no physics background--and now I'm an enthusiast of M-Theory! I got on this quantum mechanics kick after reading Bill Bryson: "A History of Nearly Everything." Since then,... more
Reality for Everyone Brian Greene's latest (equation-less) book "The Fabric of The Cosmos", addresses why spacetime is not simply a metric but a real "something", and the overarching question, "Just what is reality?" My take is that everyone should read this book!!

Enjoyable Reading It has been over 20 years since my college physics class. The world of physicists have not stopped discovering and Greene makes a reasonable effort to explain these advances in non-mathematic terminology. His style is quite readable, though at times... more
Explaining the wild, weird, wonderful spacetime we inhabit Brian Greene admits that his own mother complained that his first book, "The Elegant Universe," gave her a headache. It's tempting to be churlishly inappropriate and quip that this book should finish her off. "The Fabric of the Cosmos" is no easier to... more
Clarity - rare trait in armchair physics books, or any books Considerable thought and consideration for the reader went into Mr. Greene's descriptions of classical and quantum physics. His metaphors, analogies, and what ifs were delightful. While reading this book, I felt as if Brian Greene were leading me by... more
Mind Blowing Stuff Brian Greene's talent in the area of physic is only surpassed by his able to distill complex ideas and theories into simple, crisp, easy to read prose. Do not get me wrong, this is not to say that this book is always easy to read (much less understand!)... more
Fabrications? Yes, this is a well-written and intriguing book. It is also quite thought-provoking in places. THE PROBLEM IS...... as you will be well aware of if you are a physicist, physics student or simply watched the PBS TV presentation and listened to the... more
The Natural Philosophy of Space and Time I need to apologize for the formality of the title of this review: I think most other reviewers (and even the editorial blurb writers) miss the importance of this book. This is not just an introduction to modern physics for the general reader, but a deep... more
SPACE-TIME: the Final Frontier!!! +++++
This contents of this second book, by Dr. Brian Greene, can be determined from its title and subtitle. To locate an event in the cosmos (or in the sky), you have to determine its three coordinates in "space" and know the "time" of... more
A masterpiece I don't know of a clearer, better-written, or more meaningful book about what cutting-edge science has to say about the cosmos than _The Fabric of the Cosmos_.
Physicist Brian Greene has taken the time to explain every idea or finding that... more
