Can something be TOO funny? I love the Daily Show, and was excited to read this book. It gets off to a wonderful, very funny start. But pretty soon it becomes repetitive to me, with EVERY single sentence trying to be as funny as possible, which actually took away from its humor... more
5 is not enough! This is by far one of the funniest, if not the funniest books I have ever read. The stuff on the founding fathers and the formation of the constitution had me rolling on my floor. I have never laughed so hard at anything political. I have always thought... more
An irreverent hoot! I agree with the reviewer from Toronto. Little else can be said regarding a truly humorous work, other than--
Question: What do you get when you cross Jon Stewart with Douglas Adams, fold in Thomas Moore, and top off with portions of George... more
The one book I read lately that wasn't a textbook I was extremely impressed with the writing in this book. It's witty and absolutely hilarious. I brought it to work, great for amusing your co-workers. I'd advise to skip the page with the naked Supreme Court justices though depending on your work culture.

Clever, Funny, Insightful I don't watch Stewart's TV show much, but I truly enjoyed the book. A spoof on a US public-school textbook with all the wacky graphics and end-of-chapter discussion questions included. The material here is funny because it lampoons not only historical... more
Now here,'s another way to look at it...

I have never watched The Daily Show but the book is great! You will like it no matter if you are pro Democrat or pro Republican. It is safe to give as a gift to almost anyone. If you want to add something more serious to the package, throw in "Can... more
Must have Big fan of the show and the book lived up to all they hype. It is extremely funny and the fabricated quotes touch it up even more. Great idea in presenting it as a modified US History text book. If you even a little sense of humor......this will have... more
America is political satire at its very best America is political satire at its very best, half-true, all funny, one of the most dangerous "textbooks" in America. But you have to know a little bit about American government to get the joke, and that's good, too. It's amazing that Jon Stewart could... more
Is nothing sacred? No? Good! Jon Stewart and his merry band of idiots lampoon all things political. As another reviewer commented, the jabs at Jefferson's experiences are hysterical.
The visual style keeps the presentation interesting from one page to the... more
Inaction Reaction This is an extremely funny and well-written book! Covering US History and Politics, John Stewart and `The Daily Show' writers skewer high school text books and preconceptions about `democracy in action' (or `inaction' as the case may be). With spurious... more
America the Beautiful This book taught me better than my AP classes did combined. Though hilarious and with some foul language, I couldn't put it down. I nominate this book for Book of the Year.
And the Grammy award? Jon deserved it!

If you like the Daly show then you'll like the book, but... If you like the Daly show then you will probably like this book. Although it was entertaining, halfway through it I was asking myself "where do these celebrities get off thinking they can write?" Daly should stick to stand-up and leave the serious stuff... more
Makes me laugh everytime I read it. Considering the fact that I'm 17 and therefore do not understand some aspects of politics, I found this book hilarious. I am a big fan of Jon Stewart and this book lived beyond my expectations. The "Class Discussion Questions" are my favorite. more
Fabulously Funny! A must read! This was an excellent read! Coming from a Canadian who doesn't always understand the American mentality, I laughed out loud too many times to count!
Oddly, enough, it also educated me. Mixed in amongst the jokes and jabs, I learned about American... more
Completely irreverant and totally hilarious From the staff of The Daily Show, this hysterical look at the history of democracy in America is written in the format of a textbook--not one you'd ever see in an actual classroom, of course. But just like in the "real" version, the chapters of America... more
I laughed and then shared it with friends... What is the best thing about this book? It doesn't leave anyone untouched.
It is not a book to read in one sitting or from cover to cover but a book where you look at the table of contents and pick a topic, check it out, leave the book for... more
And the band played on.. and on.. and on.. I really wanted to enjoy this book, but at 240 pages, what starts off as mildly amusing becomes tiresome quickly. If you tire of cheap laughs, have ever heard of Aristotle, or went to high school outside of California, you will neither learn anything... more
Pretty tame This one felt slapped together, as if a bunch of TV writers decided to come up with a book. I found some of it funny, sure, but I also had to wade through a lot of text that was much less interesting to me. My overall impression is that this is more... more
