More Than Meets the Eye
Far and wide, I have heard "This book should have been on the cutting room floor" and "If it doesn't move the plot forward, leave it out." While this is true in most cases, it is not true for The Broker. The extra information is, in my opinion, intended to immerse the reader in the life of Marco/Joel (the main character), and to firmly establish his growing comfort in his new Italian lifestyle. I find it thoroughly engrossing, and the extra information only adds to the sudden change in lifestyle when his whereabouts are leaked. This book is an extremely good read, and John Grisham's latest has by NO means let me down.
