Slow moving for a thriller but interesting throughout.
Nice unhurried character development and a perceptive insight into the more laid back European lifestyle. Action thriller fans won't like it, but for those who want a tale with less violence and a little more realism, this is it.
IMO Grisham is not a fan of slam bang action type fiction. Now that he's accumulated more money than he'll ever need with his legal thrillers, he can indulge in more of the character-driven writing he enjoys. This can be seen starting in 2001 with A Painted House, followed by Bleachers, and The Last Juror. These stories feature real people dealing with plausable realistic situations. The Broker, with its suspense theme, is a swing back to the "old Grisham" but even here we don't have the full action thriller mentality.
