over-parenting does our kids no good This is not a book about complaining. This is a book about how mothers and fathers are over-parenting and over-doing every little piece of advice they see or hear about child-raising. Many parents have become control freaks and overly competitive, protective and insecure about their children. This is not a good and natural way to raise a happy family or to have a happy marriage. I'm not sure how "society" or the "government" can really help but we can all do better at relaxing and just enjoying our children and their childhoods while they last. Warner makes some very strong points. I especially thought the way she tracks the history of "attachment parenting" and its roots was very valuable. I also thought her analysis of how and why mothers today have the need to control every issue and aspect of their children's lives was very interesting and she's probably right. We do think we can "manage them to success".
