Valid Points

It is amusing to read through the customer reviews of this book. From the leftwing we get the usual drivel with words like, "hysteria, biased, kooky" and the like. I looked for xenophobe and homophobe and didn't see them, hmmnnn. Levin is brusk and direct but he is nevertheless brilliant as his track record clearly indicates.

The book boils down to a few basic issues:

(1) The fact that the Supreme court has been seriously and increasingly meddling in social issues outside it's purview since the late 40s was well established in this book and is indispuitable. Roe v. Wade, The School Bussing screwup and Affirmative Action sanctioned bias are well known examples. Roe v. Wade is the one that still burns me everytime I think of it. How someone, even as simple as Blackmun, could suppose he was somehow empowered and obligated to sanction the systematic murder of arguably 40M innocent unborns, is beyond me. I've listened to this naive old goat on CSPAN and even today he as swollen and proud as a toad. Even worse, the usual leftwing suspects, e.g. Schumer, Kennedy, Durbin, Pelosi, Daschle, and etc, publicly refer to him as "a great jurist." Go figure.....

(2) Whether the court's tampering with the constitution is right, wrong, indifferent, or "needed to be done" is clearly not the issue. The point is that the meddling should not be relegated to a small group of unelected officials who have virtually no responsibility to the people of our country. Such concentration of power is a blueprint for judicial tyranny. Anyone who fails to see that is either seriously short of grey matter or has their head fimly planted in the sand.

(3) I believe Jefferson theorized that an informed citizenry is essential to a successful democracy. I hear this book being discussed a lot or rightwing radio now, and if Levin has helped to better educate the masses and wake us up a bit, that's wonderful in my opinion.

(4) We now see a tremdous fight shaping up in the Senate over Bush's judicial nominees. As a social moderate and constitutional traditionalist, I do hope our milktoast politicians have the nerve to profile the leftwing over this issue once and for all. Little doubt the lefties have long used the courts to advance their socialist revolution. Little doubt few of their "advances" could have been realized through the proper legislative process. Little doubt the lefties could care less what the average person thinks. Little doubt they've done a great job of packing the supreme court, considering the leftwing is in the minority of our population.

(5)I keep thinking the the courts will at last be put in their place over the gay marriage issue - something that a strong majority of American oppose. Levin does demonstrate how to do so, but the ball is in our court.
