Why all the bad reviews? I love it!

I read this book without having read anything by Tom Wolfe before nor any of the reviews of the book. I just finished it, and am now reading the reviews, and am shocked. Why is to being panned so much? I loved it! The characters were stereotypes, but stereotypes exist for a reason - because there really are people like that! I graduated from a top-ranked collage four years ago. I was a sheltered girl from a small "red" town. I was shocked at what I saw in collage. And I fell into the trap - got into frat life, though I didn't feel comfortable with it, got involved with one of the most nototious frat guys on campus, and then sank into a depression afterwards. When I read I am Charlotte Simmons, I was kinda shocked! It's a parody of my collage life! I don't think Wolfe's portrayal was over the top: while not all collage kids live a debauched life like this, many do, and I am only four years past leaving collage, so I doubt it has changed much since then. For those of you who think Charlottoe is unreal, that nobody could be that naive and still be so smart, you are wrong. Come to small town America, and you'll find many a Charlotte Simmons.
