We're all finally sleeping again.
First, let me say that I was really against the "cry it out" theory when my daughter was an infant. She slept with us when she was small, then graduated to the crib in her own room. Then, around 19-20 months of age, she learned how to climb out of the crib-- and we didn't think we'd ever get her to sleep in her own room again!
I finally bought this book, and within a week of trying the methods described, my daughter was back on a regular sleeping routine. Simple things-- like walking in, taking care of her needs, and then walking back out without cuddling/playing with her-- weren't fun, but, they worked. The book gives you clear ideas and reassurance that you're not forever scarring your child by letting her cry a bit. (I think she lasted nearly 45 minutes one night. I could hardly stand it, but, that only happened once!) She still knows we're there and will take care of needs, but, bedtime isn't for playing.
This book brought peace back to bedtime at my house, so I'd definitely recommend it!
