Having this on your shelf won't make your company great A certain company I know had a CEO that thought this was the greatest book ever and he tried to shove it down his upper management's throat. Upper management, in turn tried to feed it to the lower levels. At the same time, they had yet another reorganization... more
Going from good to great... Unlike other reviewers, I don't like to reiterate and summarize the book. To me, that's not the point of a review.
Anyway, I purchased this book after browsing the top-selling books on Amazon. I was unaware of the previous book, Built to... more
Better than average business book This is a very readable business book. Jim Collins and his crack research team studied a lot of companies and narrowed down to 11 the ones they thought were continually great. From these 11, they tried to find characteristics that were common to them,... more

The practices are easy to understand...challenging to apply Some people have commented that the concepts in this book are elementary and have implied that the act of articulating them is insulting to readers' intelligence. By that logic, we should see many more great organizations than we currently do. If the... more
Well Worth the Time While some may say that the Collin's Team has rediscovered the obvious, I don't agree. This is a very readable book and it reinforces solid concepts about the need for focus, clarity, persistence and principled leadership.

It will change the way you do business I'm not sure why everyone feels the need to write a 12 page review of this book. It's pretty simple: If you are serious about rising through the ranks of capital achievement...then go buy this book. It might just change the way you do business.more
Required Reading for New business owners I know a few business owners who desperately need this book. Collins points out what should be common sense but isn't: the key to corporate success is discipline. A company needs to take control of itself, its employees, and its resources and get everything... more
A "pretty good" book The author's thesis is that he knows how companies make the leap from "good" to "great," and that he learned the principles by studying the statistical differences between companies that made the jump, and those that didn't.
He begins by... more

A Must-Have for Every Office Library Once in a great while a book comes along that is an instant classic. The kind of book that will be read and re-read, underlined and dog-eared. The kind of book that will still have fresh, relevant advice to offer 15 years from now when it is read once... more
Not the way to get rich THis author can tell you a bit about corporate culture but that won't make you money. I assume you read this because you need to get ahead in life. My way of doing that was reading Toby Crabel's books on trading in the stock market
