Calling all Liberal Christ-ians! Jim Wallis is an evangelical who knows how to preach to us wounded Liberal Followers-of-Christ who are tempted to sit on our butts and duct-tape our mouths, hoping someone might eventually come along to make us feel better. The way to re-claim Christian values is for us to live, and talk, our faith. To quote Wallis: "Our biblical faith and religious traditions simply do not allow us as a nation to continue to ignore the poor and marginalized, deny racial justice, tolerate the ravages of war, or turn away from the human rights of those made in the image of God." There are many of us who believe that justice and peace are never contradictory, that the poor are not only our responsibility but our family, and that we must never allow God to be shanghaied (as if that were even possible)! No doubt we're being called to action. I'd like to say "Amen!" to the review by Charleen Touchette.
