French Women Don't Get Fat
This book was soooo disappointing. The author positions herself as a kind of "anti-diet" proponent (as opposed to Atkins and South Beach-type mania), and what is one whole chapter devoted to? None other than a "Leek Soup" recipe that the author recommends for a phase of eating called "recasting." Hello, cabbage soup diet and Atkins' "Induction," en francais. The book would be so much better if she had left the soup out of it. There are some great things to say about nutrition and general life style. But, like Atkins, if you DO live in America, a lot of it just is not possible to become your permanent lifestyle. I would have thought that the author, living in NYC herself, would know about how much time the average American woman has to cook all of these nutritious recipes. Actually, no, we do not have time to cook this stuff- you are lucky we have time to read this book. Unfortunately, we can't change the pace of America- we have to live with it as is. Tell me what to order at a restaurant, please. And if you are going to poo-poo all the fad diets out there (fine by me), please don't include any kind of 'magical soup' in your book or anything called "recasting." Same game, different nationality. And all these other reviewers saying this book has "changed my life!" are full of cabbage-excuse me- leek soup.
