common sense
I must confess the main reason I am writting this review is due to my amazement at some of the comments from other reviewers. To those of you who think all french women have nannies and live a life luxgury I must set the record straight. I lived in Paris for 6 months and most the women there are not that different than the women here (besides sizes and outlook on life). They work, raise children and have the stesses of every day life just like American women. I kept reading reviews with phrases like "...well american women can't...or... American women don't have the time to...." Do American women actually think they are the only ones who raise their children and have all the stresses this entails. Do American women really believe that they are the only ones who hold jobs outside of their homes and are still expected to keep their houses in order and runnning on a budget. It is not true, French women do this also. Not only do the French do this but in some ways they do it better than we do. After 6 months of living in Paris and eating all the things most Americans would say I shouldn't eat, I lost 65 pounds. That is 65 pounds eating real butter, whole milk, dessert, 3 meals a day (many with butter sauces) plus snacks. When I arrived home I only had 40 more pounds to go to be at my ideal weight. After 1 year I was almost back at the weight I was before my 6 months in Paris. At this point, I have not only gained back all my weight but added a few more pounds. It was amazing, I did not go to France to diet, infact I wasn't even thinking about dieting. The word diet never crossed my mind and yet I lost the most weight I have ever lost without even trying. As Americans we must stand back and stop blaming others for our problems. Does anyone really think they need to drink a gallon of soda a day and yet 2 biggie drinks are a gallon or more. Does anyone think preprepared food is really healthier than cooking something yourself. I am not saying it doesn't take some time but women have been dealing with the same issues for generations and were able to accomplish much more than we seem to be able to. It may be easier to buy dinner all ready to be put in the oven or on the table but is this convenience really worth our health and the health of our children. Sorry for the lecture. I think this is basically an easy to read book with a common scense approach to eating for a healthier life.
