More than common sense
Last summer I met a famous French chef who lost 100 pounds he said by eating smaller meals and exercising one hour a day "like a religion." He drank a glass of wine for dinner and sometimes enjoyed bitter chocolate for dessert. That seems to be a French theme shared by Mme. Guiliano--lose weight but enjoy your food. It is common sense. Very refreshing.
My favorite health expert, the author of Asian Health Secrets: The Complete Guide to Asian Herbal Medicine tells the story of watching a man fall over with a heart attack while eating at Le Train Bleu, a chic Paris restaurant. I guess rich cooking can work either way depending on your habits.
It makes sense to increase fresh fruits, veggies, high fiber foods and to drink plenty of tea, which reduces cholesterol and improves digestion. The best thing about French Women Don't Get Fat is the idea of savoring delicious foods instead of filling up.
