disappointing...but only because it was oversold

Many of us were hoping that Daniel Negreanu would have some input in the holdem sections, so that was disappointing, but when the book was being written Daniel was not on the same roll he is now and the WPT had not started airing. Also, they used Johnny Chan's name to promote the book and he only contributes the preface. And there is quite a bit of filler material-specifically a history of the game of holdem and a history of the World Poker Tour which I doubt will help our games.I think for the aspiring high stakes professional player the book may actually be quite useful, as many of the highest stake cash games are evidently mixed games-including 2-7 triple draw, pot-limit omaha and the other games included in the text and there are no other books that address those games. I have spent several hours with the book already and can honestly say it is worth the money. In fact, Jennifer Harman's limit holdem section is better than 90% of the existing holdem literature out there so by itself it is nearly worth the price of the book. Also, if you read Brunson's introduction this book was not meant to replace the original Supersystem but as a companion book to learn all of the games. I definitely agree with that assessment; however, many of the games in the original book are rarely played in casinos or tournaments at all-Jacks or better draw poker, 7-stud high low no qualifier, etc. The online poker section reads like an infomercial in print for Doyle's Room. If you don't have the original this is the best multi- game book in print but it certainly does not live up to the pre-release hype of "the most anticipated poker book in the history of poker". At Amazons price of $23 and change the book is worth buying, just don't get too caught up in the hype.
